Lead Therapist

Timothy D. Cullitan, M.S., LCPC, CADC

Tim is Lead Therapist at Positive Sobriety Institute Chicago. With 30 years in the field of addiction treatment, Tim has extensive experience as a clinician and a manager working with dually diagnosed adults in the addiction IOP/PHP continuum of care. At PSI, he leads therapy and psychoeducational groups for recovering professionals incorporating Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and psycho-dynamic approaches.

While Tim is very familiar with the traditional 12 step approach to recovery, he welcomes alternative self-help approaches having had a long-standing belief and practice that ‘one size doesn’t fit all’. Tim believes in the importance of meeting his patients where they are at and compassionately helping to facilitate growth towards greater fulfillment in life and lasting recovery.

Tim has spent his career working in Chicago hospital-based outpatient addiction treatment programs including Lutheran General Hospital, Rush Behavioral Health, Resurrection/Presence Behavioral Health, and NorthShore University HealthSystem at the Doreen E. Chapman Center.

Tim earned a B.A. from Loyola University, an M.S. from National Louis University, and is an Illinois Certified Alcohol/Drug Counselor. He also served as an adjunct professor at the College of Lake County.

In addition, Tim has been a yoga enthusiast for 30 years and is a certified Kundalini Yoga teacher. He enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter as well singing, playing piano, and writing songs with his rock and roll band.
