Genetic Testing

Genetic Testing to Provide Valuable Information

Genetic Testing Substance Abuse Treatment

Positive Sobriety Institute has initiated genetic testing through Millennium Pharmacogenetic Testing (PGTSM), a leading health solutions company. This testing identifies how a patient’s genetic profile may impact his or her response to certain medications.

Genetic testing can be used to predict naltrexone response, information that is particularly valuable for our alcohol dependent patients who have varying responses to opioid antagonist drugs.

Other individuals who may benefit from this type of testing are those who are prone to an increased pain sensitivity. Increased pain sensitivity has been linked to rejection sensitivity, a hyper-alertness to the social reactions of others. This is likely due to the fact that social pain follows some of the same neural pathways as physical pain. Knowing this information in advance allows us to increase patient self-awareness and elicit strategies to work with these vulnerabilities in recovery.

The Millennium PGTSM testing is non-invasive, utilizing an oral swab.
